Electronic Monitoring With Simon Jagers

Impact the environment and your bottom line with better monitoring.

In this episode, James interviews Simon Jagers, founder of Semiotic Labs. Semiotic Labs creates and markets smart machine-monitoring technologies and Simon is a passionate advocate for the power of this technology to reduce wasted time, energy, and costs. Simon walks us through the motor monitoring systems popular today and how modern motor current signature analysis (MCSA) and a web connection allows monitoring to be done safer and more cost-efficient than ever.

In this episode we covered:

  • Semiotics and creating practical tools for the internet of things.
  • Motor Data and how motor monitoring works.
  • Benefits of MCSA systems.
  • Environmental factors involved.

SMRP18 – SMRP Conference Discussion w Fred Schenkelberg

This episode is about the learning and value that conferences hold. In SMRP 2018 conference, there were a lot of companies that participated along with their workers so that they learn something new. This yearly conference is a great opportunity for people who are struggling with different things in reliability and maintenance programs. There are presentations, workshops, and discussions all around from where you can learn to change reliability practices, improve, and sustain the process for a long term. There are a lot of new engineers or trainees who are looking for a field that would help them or catch their interest.

SMRP18 – Power Monitoring with Alex Desselle

SMRP18 – Power Monitoring with Alex Desselle

SMRP18 – Power Monitoring with Alex Desselle

Condition-based monitoring is one of the best ways to proactively approach the solution to the problems. When you are looking at the equipment for expected failures, it is very important to check the power conditions. There are a lot of failures that can be captured ahead of time if you have the power quality checks in place. When we talk about Power monitoring, the maintenance managers have to look for voltage spikes, current flow, and thermal changes in the operating environment of the equipment. This can be done by using thermal sensors but there are specific solutions for doing it in efficient ways.

SMRP18 – Planning and Scheduling with Jeff Shiver

SMRP18 – Planning and Scheduling with Jeff Shiver

Planning and Scheduling with Jeff Shiver

Planning and scheduling is a term often used in the organizations. It might be used together but there is a difference in ‘planning’ and ‘scheduling’. Planning is when you determine what jobs you have to do, develop a procedure to execute the job, assign resources, and then utilize those resources in the best way possible. Only when you have successfully planned a work-order, you can decide when to do it in the scheduling part. So both the processes go together and one can’t be completed successfully without the other. Only scheduling something is not going to help you successfully implement it.

SMRP18 – Precision Alignment with Adam Stredel

SMRP18 – Precision Alignment with Adam Stredel

Precision Alignment with Adam Stredel

Precision alignment plays a vital role in preventing premature failures and keeping the equipment up and running. Precision alignment can be defined as when the rotation with the center-align of the equipment is as collinear as possible. There can be a tolerance in the alignment depending upon the operating conditions. There are different types of tools to measure the misalignment but precision alignment using the laser is becoming trendy in the organizations. They are moving from old tools like straight edge and want to make sure that there is accuracy in the measurement. Even a dial indicator works just fine for alignment.

The Importance of Communications with Dan Anderson

When it comes to improving your reliability and maintenance programs, communication is the key to successful implementation of any sustainable business initiative. The new business processes are always complicated to understand and when you don’t make clear job plans for them, it becomes very difficult to get everyone on the same page. There are a lot of problems arise because the plan was either not clearly communicated to the team or scheduling technique wasn’t known to everyone. All of these aspects lead to failures because people aren’t aware of certain things they should have complete information about.

41 – 2016 SMRP Conference Round Up with Christopher Mears

41 – 2016 SMRP Conference Round Up with Christopher Mears

2016 SMRP Conference Round Up with Christopher Mears

This episode of the weekly podcast is focused on the 2016 SMRP conference and is described in detail by one of the Board members of the SMRP itself, the education director Christopher Mears. Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals is a shared group where you get many opportunities to learn, experience, and improve your working skills for your own and your organization’s benefit. They have an annual event in October called the SMRP conference where professionals from around gather and get a know-how about the best practices that many good quality CMRPs use in different industries. It is shared event in which many companies exhibit in workshops which technologies they are using right now. What have they come across while dealing with the reliability improvements and what are they up to—not the specific details like confidential designs, documents, and charts. But kind of keynotes that are food for thought if you are keen to make yourself better in the race of reliability professionals. Apart from this yearly event, you can find the webinars of SMRP members on the official site along with the presentations of different professionals that are working in the leading organizations of the field. The exhibitors of this society are very successful at what they do and if you want to start your reliability engineering journey—doesn’t matter if you’re a student, earlier in the career, or an experienced professional—there’s plenty for you to do in the workshops along with a chance to see the best facilities of the city in which the conferences are held.
