Repair vs Replace Decision Making with Susan Lubell

Without questions, organizations in the world need their assets to be optimal and to run efficiently. They can’t afford downtime because of the production targets they have to achieve. That is why they have to make a smart decision. They can either refurbish the assets or replace them. But the question is, when is refurbishing preferred over replacement? With refurbishment, you check the life-cycle cost of an asset. Sometimes, companies make small repairs because it’s relatively inexpensive and they can easily get the asset up and running quickly versus replacing the asset which may take time in lieu of internal approval process and purchase lead time.

Building a Business Case for Maintenance with Susan Lubell

While a host of factors influence profitability, maximizing your plant’s production output potential is arguably one of the facility’s greatest opportunities. An Asset Management, Reliability and Maintenance Strategic Plan can guide continuous improvement that’s aligned with bottom-line performance expectations for managing assets and people. This webcast will provide a framework approach for establishing your strategic asset management & reliability plan and the associated business case. Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of how to establish a baseline: “know where you are,” define where you’re going, who needs to be involved, how to measure the program’s progress and results, and what elements are essential for success.

Understanding Asset Criticality with Susan Lubell

Now as a maintenance and reliability engineer, you need to come up with some tools to help you do this asset criticality activity. The heat maps are a good way as they include the asset hierarchy of the organization along with the budget details and other related information. You rank every system in the map by creating matrices that have different illustrations—usually red dots for critical ones and so on—to allow you to focus on specific factors and the determine the consequences if those assets fail. In order to do this, stakeholders, plant maintenance staff and concerned officials need to interact as it leads to right answers by asking the right questions and addressing the right issues in a right way. This is done by cascading everything from the corporate level to the site level.

Root Cause Analysis Made Simple with Susan Lubell

This episode of the rooted in reliability podcast covers the Root Cause Analysis in the light of a book written by Susan Lubell – the guest herself—and the book is part of the made simple series. In this book, Susan has covered a number of matrices that need to be answered very specifically and clearly based on the methodologies adopted by different organizations. This book doesn’t just focus on the terminologies and specific techniques that are used by the experts. It actually covers the very baselines of the RCA methods such as how to get started with the analysis and what to look for in order to successfully implement it. This book is more of a guide for those who want to start their journey in the field and can use a bunch of best practices that are used by the top-notch organizations in the industry. It’s not about the fault tree analysis or other techniques that are used to determine the root cause. It’s more about the people managing side of the Root Cause Analysis like why do you need to perform an RCA and what are the factors that drive it.
