126 – What is Mobile Maintenance with Scott Deckers

What is Mobile Maintenance with Scott Deckers

Imagine going on a trip or being someplace and you remembered something important that you wanted to check on your organization’s CMMS but didn’t have access to where you at currently? How would you handle such situation? This is where app technology comes in and one of the top quality features that every industry has got its eyes on.

With the Mobile Maintenance apps or software installed in your tablets or mobile phones, you can now remotely access any CMMS information, failure data, historical data, and everything else at your finger tips, anytime. It’s like doing maintenance on the go.

In this episode, we covered:

  • What a CMMS is
  • What a mobile maintenance is
  • How mobile maintenance benefits organizations
  • Implementation of mobile maintenance (is it easy or difficult?)
  • Reasons why organizations may not adopt this modern approach
  • What are required to successfully implement mobile maintenance
  • And much more!

This is something that is trending these days. Every industry wants to reduce maintenance cost and save time that they put into generating reports, updating manuals, and collecting data. It is only possible when you have remote access to every record, machine data, and asset information. It does not only keep data in the purest form but also allow you to troubleshoot the very second a failure occurs, regardless where you are. There is no error in communication. Everyone has the access to the data they need. From the shop floor to the top management, people can just login to their CMMS and get ad-hoc access to relevant information.

The organizations see the increased uptime, better data, less unplanned maintenance, and reduced maintenance cost by huge percentages. They don’t have to apply or wait for every little piece of information that is critical to the asset. You can manage your work order by using a cloud server that allows you to start and finish your work order faster than the traditional ways. The speed, accuracy, and flexibility still depends on the way you install, design, and configure your CMMS, but you can do almost every task that you could have done manually.

These applications allow you to verify and check information about your assets in just one touch. The biggest issues that organizations may face is difficulty with the change management. That’s why it is important to have skilled leaders who will make everyone understand how this fast-paced, modern solution can reduce their workload and polish their skills along the way. It is very important to set baselines for getting the right data to make informed decisions. Then, you can implement solutions like Mobile Maintenance for the individual and collective benefits. No one needs to question the experience and intuition of people; you just need to be able to add to it using the technology.

The organizations need to standardize everything and implement the best practices across every single site they have. They need to work on removing those interdepartmental barriers that are always in the way of better understanding of a newly implemented system. People are always afraid of the change that is implemented without a plan. They need to be able to see the safety and efficiency that a system can really provide. The organizations just need to be committed and, above all, have a clear understanding of their goals.
