How HALT and Degradation ALT Work Together
Abstract
Kirk, guest John Paschkewitz, and Fred discussing the differences and similarities in mechanical HALT testing of motors and degradation testing for wear out modes. Kirk discusses the use of PHM (Prognostics and Health Management) to measure and provide RUL (Remaining Useful Life) estimates during its application.
Key Points
Join Kirk, John and Fred as they discuss HALT, ALT and the use of HALT with PHM (Prognostics and Health Management) and how HALT is a the tool to define the load limits for applying cyclic fatigue in a HASS or similar process to induce fatigue. The discussion are based on the material from Kirk and John’s new book “Next Generation HALT and HASS: Robust Design of Electronics and Systems” published June, 2016 by John Wiley and Sons.
Topics include:
- Mechanical HALT and how it helps define the stress limits for ALT
- Testing of aircraft air frames and the relation to fatigue damage over time
- How HALT for mechanical systems is highly adaptive to each application

hey guys, thanks for the great work, I’m a big fan of the reliability. if you guys have time, I would like to know about you guys think about reliability and business strategy and how is it related to engineering maintenance and management. thanks again and hope to hear back from you.
cheers

Hi Zyad, thanks for the note and suggestion. I’m going to call on James from the Rooted in Reliability show to talk about the topic you suggested. Thanks for listening. cheers, Fred
