The Leadership Connection Host, Doug Plucknette, interviews reliability leader Scott Brown in Episode 16 of this series. Scott joined Shell in 2006 following eight years as an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer and Blackhawk Maintenance Test Pilot in the U.S. Army. Scott started as a Reliability Engineer on Shell’s Auger Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in the Gulf of Mexico, analyzing unscheduled production deferment and equipment failure history to determine overall risk and economic potential of improvement scenarios. He facilitated numerous root cause analysis investigations, utilizing various RCA methods such as 5-Why, Apollo Reality Charting, and Causal Learning.

Scott started as a Reliability Engineer on Shell’s Auger Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in the Gulf of Mexico, analyzing unscheduled production deferment and equipment failure history to determine overall risk and economic potential of improvement scenarios. He facilitated numerous root cause analysis investigations, utilizing various RCA methods such as 5-Why, Apollo Reality Charting, and Causal Learning.
In March 2013, Scott moved onshore to optimize maintenance strategies for Shell’s assets in the GoM. He led or participated in initiatives to deliver improved reliability and availability, optimized SAP asset hierarchies and technical object types, strengthened hardware barrier safety-critical elements, and enhanced maintenance strategies for nine offshore production platforms.
In October 2016, Scott joined the Appomattox Floating Production System (FPS) team (the project and construction phases of Shell’s newest production platform in the GoM) initially working in New Orleans, then the fabrication yard in Ingleside, Texas. During this time, he managed the Appomattox equipment hierarchies and criticality classifications in SAP, maintenance and operator work instructions, and the setup of SAP task lists and maintenance plans. After Appomattox arrived at its final GoM location in 2018, Scott managed many aspects of Shell’s Asset Management System (AMS): Ensure Safe Production, Manage Equipment Care, and Perform Maintenance Execution.
In November 2020, Scott became the Operations and Maintenance Coordinator on Shell’s Olympus Tension Leg Platform, where he coordinates operations, maintenance, construction resources, and serves as the relief Offshore Installation Manager.
Scott and his wife, Xiomara, live with their two children (Dean and Eric) and dog (Luna) in Cape Coral, Florida. When not at work, Scott enjoys watching his sons play their respective sports, soccer and ice hockey, and spending time with his family at home and the beach
