Abstract

Chris and Fred discuss warning signs … especially those that revolve around culture … are often ignored. And it takes a ‘disaster’ or ‘catastrophe’ to do something about this. Why is this?

When is MTBF OK?

Abstract

Chris and Fred discuss the MTBF … and if and when it can be used … sometimes in reliability engineering. We know that the MTBF is one of the most chronically overused (and misused) so-called ‘reliability’ metrics. But is there scope for it to be used … sometimes?

QDD 022 The Way We Test Matters

QDD 022 The Way We Test Matters

The Way We Test Matters

We can look at test methods like a product in and of itself. Because tests also have requirements and need to produce usable results, we validate against those requirements. Validating our test method also ensures that they are precise and accurate.

We talk about things to consider when looking at product tests: tying test methods to the product’s use environment, standards, and cumulative effects of testing.

9 Ways Reliability is Green Engineering

9 Ways Reliability is Green Engineering

podcast episode with speaker Fred Schenkelberg

Products that are reliable are also green. This is a rather simple argument as if an item is designed and built well, it lasts a long time, thus avoiding the landfill. When living in northern Bavaria years ago, the apartment came with a full bedroom set. The entire set was both beautiful and functional. When asked about the furniture, I learned it was over 300 years old. [Read more…]

Matric Group’s Patrick Stimpert on Lean Manufacturing with a “Lean-In” Philosophy

EMS provider Matric Group’s Patrick Stimpert incorporated the Toyota Production System’s Lean principles into his contract manufacturing business. Patrick states “Results are Important. How do I get my results? With the use of the Toyota Production System’s Lean principles and my simple rule “don’t waste time rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, go fix the problem”. I believe in the “LEAN-IN” processes and gain improvements through RIPs (Rapid Improvement Projects) These projects are based on a standard of identifying problems, brainstorming solutions, attempting those solutions, and adjusting from there. “If we are going to fail, we are going to fail fast and cheap.”
