The importance of knowing what equipment we have where is the foundation of all of our reliability improvement initiatives, but do we truly know what we have? For most of us, the answer is no, we have an idea but not the fine details. Typically triggered on an event like a company merger or new capital projects, we send our highly skilled workers into the field to start collecting data, a lot of it. And this has been accepted as the way it is.
There has to be a better way, and income Imagine recognition, AI, and proven practices and applications to increase the accuracy of the data and significantly reduce the amount of effort to collect and make sense of this data. I promise you, if you ever have to collect asset data again, you will want to listen to this podcast with Stephen Crampton of Utopia.

Welcome to the Reliability Matters Podcast. This is episode number 62. By now, most of us have heard of Industry 4.0, or the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), or Smart Factory, or Factory of the Future. The key all of these acronyms is Connectivity, Data Management, Material and Process Control, Traceability, and Analytics. It’s not as simple as collecting data. The data much be understood, useful, and contextual.
My guest today is François Monette, is the co-founder and Chief Business Development Officer at Cogiscan, a company specializing in Track Trace Control products for the electronics industry.
François co-founded Cogiscan in 1999 with two other partners in Canada. François earned his mechanical engineering degree from McGill University in Montreal. François started his career at IBM, and worked at contract manufacturers, C-Mac and Solectron, before joining Universal Instruments.

We’re glad to have Shane Turcott to helps us understand more about decoding mechanical failures. He’s a principal metallurgist from Steel Image and is heavily involved in a lot of professional societies. Shane’s previously worked at a steel mill, a turbine company, and a failure analysis lab specializing in failure analysis. Steel Image was established in 2009 and deals with failure analysis, with a specialty in supporting reliability efforts in the refining industry, mining, energy, and heavy industries like automotive and manufacturing.

Were excited to have Ron Moore and Doug Plucknette get into the topic of age and random failure patterns. Ron’s been involved with maintenance and reliability for a long time. Doug’s from RCM Blitz and is a big advocate for understanding failure modes, reliability centered maintenance, and its different aspects.
