Reliability Analysis … now what? Part 3

Reliability Analysis … now what? Part 3

Reliability Analysis … now what? Part 3

podcast episode with speaker Chris Jackson

This is the third in our webinar series ‘Reliability Analysis … now what?’ The first webinar showed what it actually means to turn reliability data into something that a decision maker can use. Not a chart. Not a graph. Not a ‘p’ value. Not anything else that you find in a textbook but isn’t useful. Last month’s webinar talked about how the best way to do this is to use computers … but in an easy way! And we talked about how we create a ‘posse’ of possible ‘ways’ we can explain the data we see. And this webinar is about how we use this thing called Markov Chain Monte Carlo Simulation (MCMC) to create this ‘posse.’ And the ‘posse’ isn’t random … it is based on the ‘likelihood’ of each on being the correct one. Which is how MCMC works. [Read more…]

Preventing Moisture and Corrosion Damage on Electronics in Harsh Conditions

Preventing Moisture and Corrosion Damage on Electronics in Harsh Conditions

Preventing Moisture and Corrosion Damage on Electronics in Harsh Conditions

podcast episode with speaker Dan Jenkins

The goal of this presentation is to educate the audience of options to prevent electronic equipment failure used in enclosed spaces from corrosion through preventative maintenance practices.    As most know, the metals used in today’s electronics are processed but want to turn back to its original state as the iron components will oxidize, and the corrosion process begins.  The addition of humidity, vibration, temperature swings, and acid environments (such as being in a tire plant or downwind from a refinery) will accelerate the process.  It is this corrosion and subsequent weakening or disfiguring of the metal that causes malfunctions and failures [Read more…]

Machinery Installation: Strategy with Roman Megela

We’re glad to have Roman Megela, a reliability engineer with Easy-Laser. With over 20 years of experience, he’s been a service manager, assembly manager, and commissioner for gas compression systems. Roman’s also worked in steel and glass production, as well as oil and gas. He’s joined us before, shedding light on different elements involved in machinery installation. We started with Integrity and will look at strategy in machinery installation.

To recap, integrity is the practice of being honest. It’s showing consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral, ethical values and principles. It means you are doing what you say you’re doing.

Roman will give us insights on:

  • What is the Strategy element
  • What does a strategy have to do with machine installation
  • What should you include in a strategy

… and so much more!

SOR 593 What should a Body of Knowledge Do?

What should a Body of Knowledge Do?

Abstract

Chris and Fred discuss what a ‘body of knowledge’ or ‘BOK’ should do? And by this we mean a document or book that outlines the key ideas or things you should know for doing ‘something’ … like reliability. There are many textbooks which are (let’s face it) not helpful because they are ‘too technical’ – and not useful for the majority of reliability decisions. But we can go too far the other way as well and make things too simple – so we just plug and play tools. Without knowing what each tool does. Sound familiar? Listen to this podcast!

SOR 592 Knowledge vs Rote

Knowledge vs Rote

Abstract

Chris and Fred discuss the urge for (us) reliability engineers to rush to use a tool – and not understand what that tool does, how it works, or even if it answers the question you are trying to answer. Why is this? We sometimes (always) like solving problems. But in our rush to solve a problem … do we solve the right problem? Do we create more problems? What’s a ‘problem?’ Sound familiar or scary?
