Telematics Analytics

This post provides a list of my telematics analytics articles, a short description and a link. The goal is to make it easy for the reader to locate any of the articles. It is recommended to read these articles in the order presented.  This post will be updated when additional posts are written on this topic.

  1. “Telematics Analysis #1 – Overview” provides an introduction to telematics data. It may be used to validate engineering specifications which are the basis of component and system verification tests.
  2. “Telematics Analysis #2 – Counting Data” discusses how to analyze counting data. The example used was vehicle trips for a fleet of vehicles. A series of graphs was used to demonstrate how to start with the raw data, standardize, rank, determine the best distribution, analyze and projecting to design targets using the best distribution.
  3. “Telematics Analysis #3 – Parametric Data” discusses how to analyze variable measurements, some times referred to as continuous variables, variables, or measurement data. The histograms from individual vehicles are plotted on a single graph and then statistics used to define population percentiles. This provides information on extreme customer usage patterns.
  4. “Telematics Analysis #4 – Preparation for Analysis” discusses the work flow required. The analyst interfaces with the requester, discusses the purpose of the analysis, what data is needed, and defines data integrity requirements.
  5. “Telematics Analysis #5 – Markov Analysis” discusses the analysis of state transitions in transmission and the analysis of pedal and thermal cycling data using Markov analysis. This provides information that can be used to develop reliability tests.
  6. “Telematics Analysis #6 – Contour Plots” discusses using contour plots to display how two parameters vary. The engine torque x engine speed is used as an example. Using design information, the contour plot approach may be extended to different gear states in the transmission and gear fatigue can be analyzed.

If you want to engage me on this or other topics, please contact me. I offer a free hour for the first contact to discuss your problem/concerns and to determine how I can help you.

I have worked in Quality, Reliability, Applied Statistics, and Data Analytics over 30 years in design engineering and manufacturing. In the university, I taught at the graduate level. I provide Minitab seminars to corporate clients, write articles, and have presented and written papers at SAE, ISSAT, and ASQ. I want to assist you.
