Example for breaking down a ‘bad’ event:

Po = Probability that the outcome has occurred.

Pi = Probability that the impact has occurred given the outcome has occurred.

    Shouldn’t the graphic show multiplication of the probabilities instead of addition?

      Hi Paul,
      In practice, I multiply the probabilities. I created the graphic to show that a symptom is both the outcome [and] impact. Based on your comment, I can see where the way I represented the idea might send folks down the wrong path.
      Thanks for asking the question. I’ll need to reconsider how I present the idea.
